- Use of Energy Saving bulbs
- Encourage a “switch off policy” with staff and guests
- Ensure staff are aware of requirement to turn down/off radiators thermostats when rooms are not booked out
- Endeavour to print literature on recycled paper for collateral when required, however we create digital collateral wherever possible to reduce paper usage
- Regular boiler checks
- Reducing Waste Recycle/Re-use
- Use fabric napkins
- Use recycled products wherever possible for example our kitchen teams are now actively seeking to change food purchase habits from plastic food packaging to 100% recyclable material
- Move towards using environmentally friendly cleaning materials, and micro fibre cloths
- Recycle Kitchen oils
- Use of in-house water bottles for guests allowing us to reduce our glass bottle wastage and carbon footprint
- Good maintenance i.e. mending leaking taps
- Use of all local Lake District produce including our own herds of sheep and cattle
- Development of our own vegetable and herb gardens
- Using our estates own wood for our fires in the winter
- Replanting trees and plants for guests and wildlife
- Restaurant guests are welcome to take home any leftovers, therefore reducing waste
- Commitment to rolling out EV charging points across our hotels
- Commitment to fixing solar panels to buildings where possible to generate own energy
- Implementing live webcams to showcase our wildlife and farming
- Creating a virtual and digital garden tour at Cragwood Country House to showcase our gardens and grounds and allowing guests and visitors to learn what we are growing and protecting
- We are open to any suggestions from guests that will aid our sustainability and environmental practices
